Avadhi

Location: Jayanagar, Bengaluru

Overlooking the green boulevards and colonial charm of Jayanagar, ‘Avadhi’ stands out from the rest of the housing stock in this quintessential residential area with its unique amalgamated character, richly veined with natural and contemporary elements.

The project brings into being a personal narrative of open and interconnected spaces, challenging the concept of walls. By incorporating a glass facade and skylight, the elegant four-story building creates a direct dialogue between interior and exterior spaces.

A vertical, fabricated external shading system in the facade acts as a green screen with planted boxes to regulate sunlight during hot summers. On the inside is an automated system of fabric panels, which are durable and prepossessing. This, combined with the green cover around it, helps the house to react differently to each season.

Awash with the concepts of space, light and sustainability, the design encompassed Mahan Architects’ fundamental vision to create a hidden den of tranquillity in an otherwise bustling city.
